Why are menthol cigarettes banned in the UK?
The Menthol Ban is the result of the European Union’s Tobacco Products Directive. It has come into effect regardless of the UK’s departure from the EU. The EU has banned cigarettes with a characterising flavour, including menthol, as part of measures to discourage people from taking up smoking.
Why menthol TEREA are not part of the menthol ban
TEREA are not cigarettes and therefore menthol flavoured TEREA are not affected by the ban.
TEREA are tobacco sticks used exclusively with IQOS, a new alternative to smoking that heats tobacco rather than burning it. This produces 95% less harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes.*
Menthol TEREA come in various menthol intensities which could help menthol smokers to move away from cigarettes.
