Many smokers looking for better alternatives to smoking turn to vaping. If you’re new to vaping, you might be looking for the best cheap vape device and cheap e-liquid to get started. If you want to learn about vape prices before making a purchase, this guide may prove useful as a starting point.

We’ve compiled a list of the main categories of vaping devices on the market and summarised a rough outline as to the price range that each category of product tends to sit within.* Our guide to what e-cigarettes are may also prove useful.

Choosing the right type of vape device for you

In the market of vaping products there are many different devices and brands to choose from, all with varying prices. Whilst box mods offer the most customisability and the greatest range of features, these are typically the most expensive type of device. At the other end of the scale, cig-a-likes are usually the cheapest category of vaping products on the market. Vape pens and pod vapes lie somewhat in between these two categories based on their price point and features.

You may also want to consider whether a re-fillable or disposable device is right for you. Disposable devices or closed capsule systems offer more convenience as you don’t need to fill up your device with e-liquid yourself. However, these tend to work out more expensive than refillable devices in the long run. Many users of refillable devices also value the flexibility that this offers them; they can choose from a vast array of flavours and types of e-liquids that are on the market in the UK.

To help you with this decision, we’ve compiled a guide to the different categories of vape products on the market. This includes a rough outline as to the sort of price point you could expect to pay within each category.

Cig-a-Likes

Cig-a-likes are designed to look as close to a conventional cigarette as possible. These devices are usually small, lightweight and sometimes include a light at the end to replicate the glowing lit end of a cigarette. They can be either reusable or disposable. With cig-a-likes, features like wattage and temperature cannot be altered. Cig-a-likes are the cheapest option when it comes to vaping.

Cig-a-like price range: £5-£35*

Pod vapes

A pod vape is an ultra-compact and easy to use two-piece device including a battery and a pod. These devices are available with either closed vape pods or refillable pods. Depending on the specific brand and model of pod vape chosen, these devices may include features such as variable wattage.

Pod vape price range: £15-£50*

Vape pens

Most vape pens are small and thin, featuring a refillable tank and replaceable coils. Vape pens are considered intermediate vape devices – more advanced than pod vapes and e-cigarettes, but simpler than box mods. Like pod vapes, the specific features will depend on the model chosen. Depending on the specific device, this may include the ability to vary the wattage and voltage that the device is used at.

Vape pen price range: £10-£60*

Box mods

These devices are larger and generally have more customisable features, with longer battery life and multiple changeable elements, often including wattage and temperature control.

Box mods are the most expensive option when it comes to vaping. There are many changeable components that make up a box mod kit and they’re designed for more advanced vaping. Many box mods also have removable batteries. When the battery passes its life cycle on devices such as these, instead of buying a new device, you simply need to replace the batteries.

Box mod price range: £20-£200*

Vape juice

Vape juice or e-liquid is available in a huge range of varieties and flavours to suit every vape device. The two core ingredients to vape juices are Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin, often referred to as PG and VG.

The amount used of each of these two ingredients changes the consistency of the vape liquid itself. The optimum ratio of PG to VG in pre-mixed e-liquids is dependent on the type of device that you go for - it’s best to research which is best for your device. We've also put together a guide to e-liquid nicotine strengths here.

Vape juice price range: £2-£15*
